New PC update:

Things arrived.

Case looks sexy, but is a piece of crap to fit everything in. Much force and hacksaws was used.
Everything else works well and fine.

Room no longer smells of burnt solder. Huzzah!

I booted into the XP install form the previous system without removing any drivers in safe mode. To my suprise and amazement, it didn't bluescreen despite drastically different hardware - ATI graphics from Nvidia, ATI chipset from Nvidia, AC97-codec sound from SBAudigy4, etc. It just took a tad longer to boot up (as it does with new hardware found) and asked for disks. I really hate to admit it, but I was impressed.

Now I have to recover the raid partition, which held my unimportant data. A 'demo' version of a disinternals raid recovery thingy found the partition and files, but refused to recover due to it being a demo and all. I'm feeling somewhat hopeful that I won't have to download over 400gigs of crap again.

First entry

Ok, so received mail the replacement pc stuff is on the way:

The order will be delivered on Fri 28th August 2009. An email will be sent as soon as your order is dispatched from our warehouse.

Due to the way we supply products your order will arrive in the following way.

The items listed below will arrive in one delivery:
Item: AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz Socket AM3 6MB L3 Cache Retail Box Processor - Qty: 1
Item: Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Ballistix Memory Kit CL6 1.8V - Qty: 1
Item: XFX HD 4770 512MB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDCP HDTV out PCI-E Graphics Card - Qty: 1
Item: Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H 785G Socket AM3 DVI VGA HDMI Out 8 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard - Qty: 1
Item: Be Quiet 350W Pure Power PSU - 80plus Certified 4x SATA 120mm Fan - Qty: 1
Item: Antec Mini P180 Black MATX Case - No PSU - Qty: 1

So this should be a nice sized small PC, which packs a major punch, and shouldn't need upgrading for a few years. Unfortunately I didn't check if the PSU was switching or not, but thats just a drop in the water considering the future.

Also: side note - congratulations to ebuyer for fucking up the verified by visa program. You managed to charge a card without requiring the actual verification! When you do try to get the card verified, it doesn't actually tell you anything - it goes to blank screen city, tempting people to hit the dreaded refresh button. From a purely online business, this is scarily incompetent. Compare this to the National Express EA website, when I previously tried to purchase train tickets online and the form didn't forward the CCV, hence failing all payments. No wonder their East Coast franchise went bust!

Drs appt and Deans tomorrow, staying overnight. Should be fun.
